Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy works by placing your body in a pressurised environment typically 1.5 ATA. At that level, oxygen dissolves directly into your plasma, reaching tissues that would not receive adequate oxygen through normal breathing alone.
For people dealing with chronic inflammation, neurological symptoms, long-term fatigue or slow tissue recovery, this matters. Your cells need oxygen to repair. When circulation is compromised or inflammation is blocking delivery, HBOT provides a different route in.
A 2022 randomised controlled trial published in Aging found that HBOT significantly improved cognitive function and reduced neuroinflammation in Long Covid patients following 40 sessions. A 2023 study in Frontiers in Physiology reported meaningful improvement in Long Covid symptoms including fatigue and cognitive impairment in 72% of participants. Research published in the Journal of Athletic Training found HBOT accelerated recovery from muscle injury and reduced delayed onset muscle soreness. The evidence spans chronic illness, post-viral recovery, and athletic performance alike.
Your first session starts with a conversation about your condition, your history, and what you are hoping to achieve. HBOT is not something we recommend without understanding your situation.
The session itself is calm and private. You lie or sit comfortably inside the solo chamber. You might read, listen to something, or simply rest. The pressure builds gently over the first few minutes. Most people find it deeply relaxing. Some notice improved clarity or energy immediately after. For most, the changes build over repeated sessions.
This is not a one-session fix. But for the people it works for, it works in a way that very little else does.
For clients managing more complex conditions, including recovery from cancer treatment or neurological conditions such as traumatic brain injury, sessions can extend to up to two hours. The duration is always determined by your individual circumstances and the protocol your therapist recommends, rather than any fixed rule. Longer sessions allow for a more sustained period of oxygen saturation at pressure, which is particularly relevant where the therapeutic goal involves neurological repair or supporting the body through the demands of oncological recovery.
HBOT is used by people managing Long Covid, fibromyalgia, ME/CFS, persistent fatigue, autoimmune conditions, post-surgical recovery, and neurological symptoms that have not responded adequately to other treatment. It is also used by athletes recovering between competitions, professionals dealing with burnout, and anyone whose body needs a more direct intervention than rest and lifestyle changes alone can provide.
If you are not sure whether this is right for you, come and talk to us. We will be honest. If HBOT is not the right starting point for your situation, we will tell you that too.
